WE ASKED THE GUYS BEHIND FRIEDHATS COFFEE, LEX WENNEKER AND DYLAN SEDGWICK TO ANSWER A FEW QUESTIONS FOR US!

Tell us about Friedhats Coffee Roasters and why did you guys start roasting coffee?

We’re an Amsterdam based roastery. We’re basically two guys (Lex and Dylan) with a big love for coffee who started roasting a couple years back after Lex’s Roastery (Headfirst Coffee Roasters) got shut down.

We wanted to create a company that was fun to work with / to work in. Focussed on mainly one thing: coffee. We wanted to roast the best coffee in the world without taking ourselves too seriously.

We actually started roasting years before we started Friedhats because we couldn’t find the quality of coffee we were looking for. And we kind of wanted to continue on this journey.

What is the best coffee experience you’ve had ever?

For me (Lex) it probably was when I finished second in the World Barista Championship. Kind of a dream to come true (:

For Dylan Its drinking an exceptional “normal” coffee. Like when you feel like a kenyan and you you just sit down and enjoy it without distraction or food and its just..

Tell us something uncoffee related about yourselves?

Lex: If I wouldn’t be in coffee I would have probably tried to pursue a career as a professional climber (: It’s the only thing besides coffee that I can see myself doing for the rest of my life.

Dylan: i dont know. I like getting zebra printers to work

What is the plan for the future? World domination?

World Domination is definitely on the ToDo-list, but what do you do after you’ve dominated the world? Sit back and relax? Maybe go climbing? Sounds good, we’ll give it a shot.

in the meantime we’ll probably buy a bigger roaster, so we can spend our time on other things as well. So many things to do and so little time to do it in (:

We would like to visit origin more frequently, improve the quality of our coffee even further and do some cool things with our new cafe.
